HCOHSEM Honored with Two Awards at PRSA Houston Excalibur Awards Gala
Harris County, Texas — The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) has received the Bronze Tactical Brochure and Bronze Tactical Video Awards from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Houston Chapter for its Emergency Preparedness Guide and “Ready for Anything” Videos.
The Tactical Brochure Award acknowledges organizations that inform a target audience about rising issues. In 2025, HCOHSEM launched its Emergency Preparedness Guide to help Harris County residents prepare for any hazard. It provides tips for how to prepare for hurricanes, floods, extreme heat or cold, hazardous materials and more. The guide is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Arabic, online and in print, to ensure accessibility.
The Tactical Video Award recognizes organizations that internally or externally promote awareness. HCOHSEM launched a set of innovative “Ready for Anything” videos in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language to serve as a year-round preparedness resource. These videos walk residents through the essential steps of assembling emergency kits, registering for alerts and getting involved in community preparations.
“Our goal is to ensure every Harris County resident has access to the tools and resources they need to be ready for any emergency,” said Harris County Emergency Management Coordinator Mark Sloan. “We are honored to be recognized by PRSA Houston and remain committed to helping our community stay prepared year-round.”
The Houston PRSA Excalibur Awards honor outstanding public relations professionals, programs, and tactics. Award winners were announced on June 25, 2026 at the Excalibur Awards Gala.
