Harris County, Texas – The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) hosted its fourth annual EM Impact Program on July 28th and July 29th. EM Impact is aimed to educate and support young women (ages 18-29) as they explore careers related to emergency management and network with professionals within the field.
During the two-day program, participants engaged in a variety of activities, including taking part in a communications workshop, cultivating their leadership and decision-making skills by engaging in a hands-on Lego Game, and exploring the opportunities within emergency management. The program also highlighted panel sessions over ‘What it Means to be an Emergency Manager’ and ‘Partners in EM - The Business Sector,’ and trainings such as ‘STOP the Bleed,’ hosted by the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council.
“EM Impact isn’t just an educational event, it is an experience that offers the opportunity to make connections and that can help support for future careers,” said Mark Sloan, Director and Emergency Management Coordinator for HCOHSEM. “We are honored to continue offering young women the space to learn and explore opportunities in emergency management.”
The fourth annual EM Impact program was supported by various local businesses who provided supplies and refreshments for the participants. This included the Southeast Regional Local Emergency Planning Committee (SER LEPC), Jeff’s Bagel Run, Max Marketing and Safeware.Photos and highlights from the program can be found across @EMImpactTX social media channels.
