TXDOT | TxDOT TO BEGIN DEMOLITION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF THE I-45 NORTHBOUND TO I-69/SH 288 SOUTHBOUND DIRECT CONNECTOR

HOUSTON– TheI-45 Northbound Direct Connector project will start another major milestonenext weekend as crews begin reconstruction of the I-45 northbound to I-69/SH288 southbound direct connector.  The current connector is a left exit andwill be converted to a right exit from I-45.

  • Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, January 25th, crews will permanently close the I-45 Gulf Freeway northbound direct connector to I-69/SH 288 southbound. 
  • Motoristswill continue northbound on I-45 Gulf Freeway along Pierce Elevated to I-10East back to I-69 southbound. 
  • Theclosure will remain in place until Friday, June 28 th when motoristswill utilize the new connector. 


Thereare several additional closures that weekend as crews demolish the existingI-69 southbound connector ramp. A few are highlighted below.  Foradditional closures related to the demolition this weekend please visit www.houstontranstar.org


Theclosures will take place beginning at 9 p.m. Friday,January 25 th through 5 a.m. Monday, January 28th.  

  • Crews will completely close the I-45 Gulf Freeway northbound mainlanes from Cullen to the I-69 Interchange.
  • Motoristswill detour to Spur 5 and take the Scott St. exit or the I-69 NB exit. FromScott St. motorists can proceed along the I-45 northbound frontage road to thePease St. entrance ramp from I-45 N.  Motorists taking I-69 northbound cantake I-69 NB to I-10 W back to I-45 N. 

  • Crews will close the I-69 southbound connector ramp to I-45 southbound beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, January 25th through 5:00 a.m. Monday, January 28th
  • Motoristswill detour to Spur 5 and take the Scott St. exit or the I-69 NB exit. FromScott St. motorists can proceed along the I-45 northbound frontage road to thePease St. entrance ramp from I-45 N.  Motorists taking I-69 northbound cantake I-69 NB to I-10 W back to I-45 N. 


  • Crews will close the I-69 southbound connector ramp to I-45 southbound beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, January 25th through 5:00 a.m. Monday, January 28th.  
  • Motorists will take I-69 to I-10 West to I-45 South.  

  • The Pease/St. Joseph exit ramp will also be closed.
  • Motorists will need to detour to I-69 N and exit Scott St. and take the northbound frontage road to Pease St.  To access St. Joseph motorists can turn left on Emancipation to the St. Joseph intersection.

  

  • The I-45 Gulf Freeway northbound mainlanes from Scott St. to Cullen will be closed nightly beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, January 25th through 5 a.m. Monday, January 28th. 
  • Motorists will detour to Pease St. and enter I-45 at the Pease St. entrance ramp.

  • Lastly, crews will close the I-45 Gulf Freeway Southbound mainlanes from Allen Parkway to the I-69 interchange from 6:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26th through 5:00 a.m. Monday, January 28th.  
  • Motorists on I-45 can detour to I-69 North or South.  I-10 West traffic can detour to I-69 S to I-45 S.  
  • Motorists should expect delays and are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes.  


The new I-69 connector ramp once completed will join the new Spur 5 and I-45/I-69 direct connector.  The project is scheduled for completion the 2nd quarter of 2019.  


The $30.45 million project will improve connectivity and reduce congestion and the common weaving along the corridor.
