NEWS RELEASE

TXDOT INSTALLS NEW SYSTEM AIMED AT REDUCING TRUCK ROLLOVERS

Several closures during weekend of Nov. 16

HOUSTON – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be installing a new truck rollover advisory system to warn truck drivers of their approaching speed onto the exit ramp. There will be closures on I-10 Katy Freeway eastbound at IH 610 West Loop northbound from Friday, November 16 at 9 p.m. to Sunday, November 18 at 5 a.m.

To allow the contractor space to safely install the system, the following closures are necessary during the weekend of Nov. 16-18:

  • Total closure of the IH 610 northbound ramp from Friday, November 16 from 9 p.m. to Sunday, November 18 at 5 a.m. Drivers can detour by exiting IH 610 southbound direct connector, exiting San Felipe, U-turning and entering the ramp to IH 610 northbound.
  • Two left lanes of I-10 eastbound will be closed just east of the IH 610 exit on Saturday, November 17 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Two right lanes of I-10 eastbound will be closed just east of the IH 610 exit on Saturday, November 17 from 5 p.m. to Sunday, November 18 at 5 a.m.

Crews will be installing flashing lights and signs to warn truck drivers when they are approaching the exit at too high a rate of speed. This is in an effort to reduce the number of truck rollovers at this location.

All closures are subject to change due to inclement weather. Road closure information will be posted at www.houstontranstar.org. For more information, contact Emily Black at (713) 802-5022. Follow us on Twitter @TxDOTHouston.
