Motorists can expect increased traffic in and around the Seabrook Waterfront District in addition to traffic congestion around the Kemah Boardwalk on Good Friday and throughout Easter weekend. Due to anticipated traffic, the Seabrook and Kemah Police Departments will increase patrol. Seabrook will have an additional seven officers on duty on Friday, April 19, 2019; primarily assisting with traffic control in and around the Waterfront District.
GETTING TO SEABROOK WATERFRONT
Detours are currently in place for traffic traveling northbound on SH 146 from Kemah wanting to visit the Waterfront District. Motorists traveling northbound on SH 146 will need to detour right on Meyer, turning right on Main Street (2nd Street) and then right on Todville. Those traveling southbound on SH 146 may exit the SH 146 connector ramp turning left on 10th Street under the bridge.
LEAVING SEABROOK WATERFRONT
Motorists leaving Waterfront needing to travel northbound on SH 146 should continue straight on Todville and then left onto East Meyer to SH 146. Those leaving Waterfront needing to travel southbound should turn left on 10th Street, travel under the bridge and then right onto the SH 146 connector ramp.
Temporary directional signage will be placed to assist with Seabrook traffic control, however, Chief Sean Wright with the Seabrook Police Department, encourages both residents and visitors to be patient while in traffic on Good Friday and throughout the weekend. Increased construction, lane and street closures plus Easter weekend events and festivals around the area will naturally result in more traffic congestion. Motorists who are not visiting Waterfront should avoid the area and find alternative routes.
Parking for area fish markets along Waterfront Drive will be limited. Do not park on private property and always be considerate of others in addition to watching out for pedestrians.
GETTING TO KEMAH
For those wanting to visit Kemah this weekend, the City of Kemah recommends taking I45 South to Farm Road 518 or to State Highway 96. Free parking will be provided by the City of Kemah at Stewart Elementary and along Carolyn Avenue. Motorists traveling southbound on SH 146 should remain in the right lane over the Seabrook-Kemah Bridge to access these free parking lots.
