Harris County Offers ITC Incident Update
(Houston, TX) – Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and the Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) continue to support response efforts regarding the incident at Intercontinental Terminals Company (ITC) in the City of Deer Park. More than 20 local, state and federal partners remain working around the clock at the Harris County Emergency Operations Center for the tenth consecutive day.
As of this evening tanks, 80-7 and 80-10 which contained pyrolysis gasoline (pygas) have been emptied. Tank 80-13 still contains approximately 13,500 barrels of pygas and is being pumped at a rate of 1,200 barrels per hour.
Based on current health-related data from multiple sources, the health risk for the general public remains low. However, because this has been an evolving situation, our partners at Harris County Public Health recommend that those with health concerns should contact their provider.
If you do not have a health care provider, the Harris Health System’s Ask-My-Nurse helpline remains open 8 AM to 8:30 PM, 7 days a week to help answer health questions. The number is 713-634-1110.
While cleanup and monitoring of the water near the incident area is ongoing, the Houston Ship Channel has reopened for one-way traffic for daytime operations. Harris County Commissioner Precinct 2 parks near the ITC site that have waterfront areas will remain closed to the public until water sample results have come back with safe findings.
