Low-Lying Area Voluntary Evacuation issued for Seabrook

Mayor Thom Kolupski has issued a voluntary evacuation for residents and businesses in low-lying areas in Seabrook, specifically lower Todville from Red Bluff south to SH 146 and Baywood Drive. These portions of Seabrook are most prone to storm surge and flooding. The National Weather Services has issued a Hurricane and Storm Surge Watch for these areas with an anticipated two to four feet of storm surge in Seabrook based on the current track of Tropical Storm Laura.

The latest update from the National Hurricane Center predicts Tropical Storm Laura will develop into a Category 2 hurricane and track towards the Texas-Louisiana border, making landfall Wednesday evening. Due to the potential for storm-surge, the City of Seabrook has determined it is in the best interest of the residents in these areas to make preparations to leave.

This notice is very important to elderly residents and/or people with medical conditions. We encourage these residents to evacuate these portions of the city at your convenience, however, due to rain, storm surge and the probability of heavy traffic you are encouraged to do so sooner rather than later.

Following the Texas Governor’s state of disaster declaration, Mayor Thom Kolupski signed a local disaster declaration to assist the City of Seabrook in preparing, mitigating and recovering from the storm. The track of this storm may quickly change and all residents should prepare in the event of an evacuation. Residents should also prepare their home for high winds and secure any loose items on their property.

All residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts online at www.seabrooktx.gov/alerts . Tropical Storm Laura updates will also be posted to the city’s social media networks.
