Brazoria County – The potential for heavy rains are possible over the next several days according to the National Weather Service. Depending on where the rain falls, the river level may be affected within our region. In anticipation of a possible rise over and beyond forecasted levels, County Judge Matt Sebesta has signed a Disaster Declaration for the County. “Residents need to be vigilant and stay tuned to Brazoria County for information, “ says County Judge Sebesta. Judge Sebesta warns, “Residents should be very cautious regarding false information that is being posted on social media”.
Residents who flooded in 2015, should be prepared as the rising water of the Brazos River could potentially be close to the 2015 level of 51.46’. Currently, the forecasted crest is at 50.9’ at the Brazos River at the Rosharon gauge. If heavy rains fall in the Brazos River watershed in the next few days we could see this level increase close to the 2015 level of 51.46’. River conditions are not expected to be anywhere close to the 2016 or 2017 (Harvey) levels at this time.
Residents need to continue to monitor river conditions and rainfall, as conditions can change quickly. To get the most up-to-date information on road closures residents can go to http://bit.ly/BCRoadClosure.
