2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season Ends

Harris County, Texas — The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially ended on November 30th.  In all, there were a total of 13 named storms, five of which were hurricanes - with Erin, Humberto and Melissa being classified as major category 5 hurricanes.

“While Harris County was fortunate to avoid tropical weather this year, it’s important that we stay prepared,” said Harris County Emergency Management Coordinator Mark Sloan. “Severe weather and other emergencies happen at all times of year. Staying prepared and making sure that you are able to receive emergency alerts and warnings is key to keeping your family and our community safe.”

Our region may not have faced direct impacts this year from tropical weather but other events such as the winter weather in January and the drought conditions that began in October remind us that readiness and awareness remain essential for our community’s safety.

Although hurricane season has officially ended for the year, HCOHSEM encourages residents to stay prepared and informed before, during and after hurricanes and other emergencies. Residents can access disaster preparedness tools, including checklists, hurricane brochures and resources for kids by visiting www.readyharris.org and signing up for Ready Harris Alerts and Ready Harris Accessible Alerts.

The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane season begins June 1, 2026.
