Severe Weather Beginning Wednesday Afternoon

What is the danger?

According to the National Weather Service, a round of severe weather is expected tomorrow afternoon and evening as a cold front moves through the region, beginning as early as 1:00pm. Severe thunderstorms, strong winds and hail are the primary threats. Widespread rainfall rates of less than one inch are expected across the county, however, isolated areas of heavy rainfall may occur.  

What you should do:

STAY HOME

• Stay Home, Work Safe order is in effect: do your part by staying home!
• If you must drive, stay safe:
  • NEVER drive into flooded roadways.
  • Have lights and wipers on.
  • Allow extra braking distance and more time for your commute.

GET PREPARED

• Bring pets inside.
• Move your vehicle under cover, if possible.
• Secure loose objects in your yard.
• Have a flashlight, NOAA Weather Radio and extra batteries in case you lose power.

BE INFORMED

• Monitor the weather throughout the afternoon and evening.
• Get updates from trusted sources such as: National Weather Service Houston-Galveston, Harris County Flood Control District, and ReadyHarris.
• Power outages are possible anytime high winds occur. Track outages using the CenterPoint Energy Outage Tracker at ReadyHarris.      
• Have a way to get emergency alerts by enabling your cell phone’s emergency alerts feature.

Tiempo Severo Durante el Miércoles por la Tarde

¿Cuál es el peligro?:

Según el Servicio Nacional de Meteorología, se espera una ronda de clima severo mañana por la tarde y por la noche a medida que un frente frío se mueve a través de la región, comenzando tan temprano como la 1:00 p.m. Tormentas severas, vientos fuertes y granizo representan las principales amenazas. Tormentas severas, vientos fuertes y granizo pueden ocurrir. Se esperan rondas de lluvia generalizadas de menos de una pulgada en todo el condado, sin embargo, pueden ocurrir áreas aisladas de fuertes lluvias.  

Lo que debes hacer:

SI ESCUCHA TRUENOS, ¡PERMANEZCA DENTRO!

• Posponga actividades al aire libre.
• Si está afuera durante una tormenta eléctrica, busque refugio de inmediato.
  • Entrar dentro de un edificio o estructura cubierta.
  • Evite árboles y objetos metálicos si no hay refugio disponible.

QUEDARSE EN CASA

• La orden Quédese en Casa, Trabaje Seguro está vigente: ¡Ponga de su parte quedándose en casa!
• Si debe conducir, hágalo con precaución:
  • NUNCA conduzca por carreteras inundadas.
  • Mantenga las luces y limpiaparabrisas en buen estado para su uso.
  • Mantenga una distancia adecuada entre su vehículo y los demás en caso que tenga que frenar.

PREPÁRESE

• Mantenga a sus mascotas dentro de su hogar.
• Si es posible, cubra sus vehículos en un sitio techado.
• Asegure los objetos sueltos en su patio.
• Tenga a la mano linternas, radio meteorológico NOAA y pilas adicionales en caso de que se vaya la luz.

MANTÉNGASE INFORMADO

• Monitoreé el clima durante la tarde y la noche.
• Obtenga actualizaciones de fuentes confiables como: El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional Houston-Galveston, Distrito de Control de Inundaciones del Condado Harris y ReadyHarris.
