Update: Flash Flood Emergency (THURS- 1800)
What is the danger?
As of 4:00 p.m. today, the heaviest rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda has ended. While some rain will continue, it will be less intense than what fell earlier today. Water levels in bayous and streams will slowly fall though some may drain quicker than others.
Residents are urged to continue taking protective measures to ensure their safety. As many roadways remain flooded, the smart choice is to stay home and avoid driving unless absolutely necessary.
Likewise, if your home has taken in water, STAY WHERE YOU ARE. You are far safer at home than trying to walk though flooded roads or open spaces. Once darkness falls, it will be impossible to see danger from deep water, wildlife, and debris. Call 9-1-1 only if you believe you are in danger.
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management continues to respond to the impacts of today’s rain and flooding event. We are currently activated at Level I – Maximum Readiness. The Emergency Operations Center is fully staffed with response partners from the local, state, and federal governments.
What you should do:
Residents are encouraged to monitor the forecast, road conditions and have multiple ways to receive alerts.
People should bring their pets inside and delay travel or outdoor activities during periods of heavy rainfall. If travel is unavoidable, reduce your speed to avoid hydroplaning. If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area, DO NOT TRAVEL.
DRIVE SAFELY- If you must travel, never drive into high water and use extreme caution at underpasses and low-lying areas where water accumulates.
- Always remember to Turn Around, Don’t Drown! DO NOT DRIVE through high water and DO NOT DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES.
- Just two feet of water can sweep your vehicle away.

EVITE SALIR. CONDUZCA CON PRECAUCIÓN - Si tiene que viajar, nunca conduzca en lugares inundados y tenga mucho cuidado en los pasos subterráneos y áreas bajas donde se acumula agua.
- ¡Recuerde regrésese y no se ahogue! NO CONDUZCA en aguas altas y NO CONDUZCA ALREDEDOR DE BARRICADAS.
- Tan solo dos pies de agua pueden barrer su vehículo.
