Extended Washburn Tunnel Closure 7/12 and 7/19
HOUSTON, Texas - The Washburn Tunnel will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday, July 12th to 4 a.m. Friday, July 13th. The extended closure will be repeated the following week from 8 p.m.Thursday, July 19th to 4 a.m. Friday, July 20th. During this time, crews will be preparing the tunnel for the 10-day shutdown, which is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 23rd.

Drivers are reminded to use alternate routes during the closures. Alternate routes include I-610 East Loop Freeway, Sam Houston Parkway, and Highway 146.

Work conducted during the closures is part of the Precinct’s Washburn Tunnel Concrete Repair project, which was planned proactively to extend the life of the Tunnel. This $670,000 project includes repairing various spots of the Tunnel’s concrete lining, with most work taking place during the regularly scheduled maintenance closures.
