Traffic Alert: IH-610 West Loop Major Weekend Closure
April 4, 2018
HOUSTON –The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be restriping a section of IH 610/West Loop southbound from the Woodway exit to the entrance ramp just south of Woodway in preparation for construction to begin in the area for the elevated dedicated bus lane. There will be a total closure of IH 610/West Loop southbound mainlanes starting Friday, April 6 at 9 p.m. to Saturday, April 7 at noon. The left two lanes will open Saturday at noon and all lanes are expected to be open by midnight.
Drivers can detour by going IH 10 eastbound to IH 45 southbound to US 59/IH 69 southbound to get back onto IH 610/West Loop. Local traffic can exit Woodway. There will be police officers at the Woodway intersection to direct traffic.
The restriping will shift traffic to the left, utilizing the left shoulder as a lane, to ensure construction crews have enough space to operate safely as work begins on the elevated bus lane. Once the restriping is complete, four IH 610/West Loop mainlanes and one frontage road lane will remain open at this location.
The elevated bus lane project aims to improve mobility and safety by adding dedicated right of way and separating buses from general traffic and helping to reduce congestion on IH 610/West Loop. This TxDOT project will work in tandem with the dedicated bus lane project under construction by the City of Houston and Uptown Management District which is already underway from IH 610/West Loop to Richmond. TXDOT is asking drivers to continue to be cautious in the construction area.
