Harris County Public Health Dispatches Mobile Wellness Units into the Community
HCPH Will Provide Vaccines, Wellness Screenings, and Cleaning Supplies

(Houston) - Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is Taking Public Health to the Public and will dispatch several mobile wellness units on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, to provide much-needed services and supplies directly to families in Galena Park, Texas. The area was chosen because homes and businesses experienced widespread flooding damage during Hurricane Harvey, and the community continues to need assistance from health and wellness providers.

The outreach coincides with National Influenza Vaccination Week, which is Dec. 3 – 9, 2017. Flu shots and other services will be made available for free (with the expectation of $10 pet microchipping).

The following services will be offered:

  • Immunizations
    • tetanus and flu shots
  • Dental supplies
  • Wellness screenings
  • WIC services and nutritional information
  • Mosquito control education
  • Food and safety water education
  • Fresh food and cleaning supplies (while they last)
  • Veterinary services ($10 cash for microchipping)

Background Information

HCPC is committed to assisting families with recovery, health and wellness in areas whey they live, work, learn, play and worship. In the immediate aftermath of Harvey flooding, HCPH dispatched then-brand-new mobile wellness units to survey neighborhood damage and assist residents with health and safety information. HCPH is partnering with county commissioners, local school districts, businesses and community organizations to provide services directly to families who, in many cases, are rebuilding their homes or may not have access to transportation.
